Jan 27, 2012 Update- Out of love and respect for the administrative staffs of WSUM and UW-Madison, and in order to make their lives easier, I am voluntarily complying with a request to remove the Vampires vs Muslims segment from this podcast. When I have time, I'll release an edited version, but for now, the link for the whole show is dead. I apologize to our listeners for this inconvenience.
We did not intend to offend. We think stereotypes are ridiculous, and our Vampires vs Muslims show was one way we chose to express that. We know that stereotypes have hurt a lot of people, and do not mean to make light of that fact. Rather, we often attempt on our show, through our admittedly odd senses of humor, to shed light on the absurdity of judging a person based on any one characteristic. If you thought we were LITERALLY or SINCERELY comparing Vampires to Muslims... well, you were wrong.
We have roundly received support from listeners (fans and non-fans). We have tried to reach out to this one extremely offended individual through Twitter, but our attempts to explain ourselves and make friends have been rebuffed (see the comments on Kathy's Blog). Now, I have been asked to censor MY PODCAST in order to appease the delicate sensibilities of one individual. Frankly, now I am offended. However, I am keeping this in perspective: it's just one silly bit on our stupid show, and I understand that WSUM (and ultimately UW-Madison) is on the hook for the consequences here (more self-righteous tweets, emails, and phone calls?!?). So, I acquiesce.
But although this squeaky wheel has gotten her grease, she has proven herself to be no better than us (and perhaps worse) by perpetuating one of the most well-known and hurtful stereotypes (right behind "Black People Love Air Conditioning"): "Muslims Have Knee-Jerk Reactions, Refuse To Consider Things In Their Full Context, And Appeal To Major Authorities For Minor Problems".
That last sentence was another attempt at humor. Please don't call the Dean on us again.
Love you all,
-Pete
Original Post- Well, with a topic like Vampires vs Muslims, we all knew this show would be controversial. But we had no idea it would turn out like this. From Vampires vs Muslims, to Pussies vs Balls, to Anal Impairment, this was one of the funnest (and funniest) Ass-Jammeries I can remember. We covered a lot - SOPA, Penis Tattoos, and the New Hampshire Primary! And my new Lame Show, Pitch Pete, was a rousing success. Please listen below, and hang out with the Ass-Jammery for a couple hours.
